Governance

From Demil and Lecocq (quoting Williamson)

“ ... governance structure also employs different means to regulate adaptability in transactions and to ensure coordination, enabling the various parties ‘to work through their differences and get on with the job.’”

Successful governance requires participation by the community and includes the explicit participation of sponsors, information generators, and information users. Rules of behavior are required. These rules support the values of the community, for instance, how is accuracy assured? Governing bodies are needed that assure that the different constituencies of the community are represented and that their participation is assured.

One role of governance will be in certification. When a development or an analysis is associated with the name of Openclimate.org, that product will be certified to adhere to the values of the community.

It is the charge of the Charter Members to develop Openclimate.org’s initial set of values, characteristics of governance, and how these can be changed.
