Infrastructure
Governments around the world have developed an enormous array of climate resources, but the broader community is often unaware of these resources or not able to access them easily. The analysis of the information contained in these resources requires the expertise of the practitioner. The fragmented development of capabilities across a large number of countries and multiple organizations in these countries leads to barriers to the access and generation of climate information. Central to the mission of Openclimate.org is to draw on and build upon existing scientific investments and climate models and to contribute to the evolution of the information technology (IT) infrastructure of the climate change community. Specific to Openclimate.org’s mission is the realization that while the previous developments addressed specific applications, they represent enormous fiscal and intellectual investments, and they hold great potential for more general application.
