These lectures are part of my problem solving collection.
Lecture 1:
The first annotated lecture is motivated by the fact that we find it difficult to think about how to plan when we are faced with a growing threat. We struggle with the idea that if we do things earlier, rather than later, it will have big impact in the future.
There is, also, a seeming human attribute of fatalism. At times, we had rather live uniformed about the future, rather than know the direction and speed at which something will change. If we have no control over what will come, then perhaps, this lecture and course is not for you!
Though we hear that the climate naturally “varies,” a basic challenge is that the average around which climate varies is changing. Therefore, when weather disrupts something, the recovery is in an different climate that before.
Understanding time and that we are familiar with how to anticipate and plan for change is the purpose of this lecture.

Lecture 2:
In the second lecture, I introduce the concept of approaching a complex problem by considering the time scales, spatial scales, and wealth. This is posted as its own entry as well.
- short term or long term
- local or global
- rich or poor
Wealth is used to introduce ethics.
